Located in the vast Chihuahuan Desert outside of Dallas, Texas, Guadalupe Mountains National Park rests upon the crest of a broad, sloping Mesa. It is known for its brilliant-white salt flats, rich wildlife-rich grasslands, and historic limestone steep cliffs.

When it comes to hiking, the best time to go is between May and October. Hiking to the top of the Guadalupe Mountains requires at least level terrain and moderate weather.
Since the highest point is reached in April, the weather should remain dry and cool during the months of May, June, and July. For the peak hiking season, June, August, and September are considered mild and relatively safe. The months of March, April, May, June, and September are considered rainy and potentially hazardous.
Another feature of the park is the Guadalupe Caverns and Crystal Caves. These impressive caves were formed by millions of years of water flowing into the cave system. Crystal Caves contains over seven miles of underground caves, which include a hot spring.
