Start with the atmosphere you love most.
Then consider meaning, pronunciation, and everyday usability.
Finally, say the complete name aloud.

Ask Yourself These Questions

Do I want a subtle or obvious Halloween connection?

Subtle choices include Autumn, Hazel, Willow, Luna, and Rowan.

More obvious choices include Salem, Raven, Casper, and Shadow.

Does the name work beyond October?

A seasonal name can still be beautiful year-round, but think about how it will sound in different stages of life.

Does it sound good with the surname?

Say the first, middle, and last names together several times.

Do I know the actual meaning?

Online baby-name lists sometimes repeat inaccurate or modern interpretations. Check reliable naming references before treating an etymology as fact.

Is it suitable for the person I’m naming?

A dramatic Halloween name can be perfect for a fictional character but may feel very different as an everyday baby name.

Quick tip: Write down your five favorite names and leave the list alone for a few days. Then see which names still stand out.
